Miller's 20 - McHoul's 14

On a beautiful morning at Whitesell, the 2 funeral homes were playing for the Golden Urn. Miller's buried McHoul's 20-14, with both teams short and having to borrow some players from the Grill. The game was close till Miller's scored 5 runs in the 4th, 5th, and 6th innings. This was a team win as everybody contributed in different ways. Many big hits with 2 outs. Leading the way were the veterans: Tom (Spider) DeRito going 4/4 with 2 doubles and winning pitcher Dewey Bogardus adding 3 big RBI’s. Jeff Noe went 4/5 with 2 doubles and borrowed Grill master Mike Brooks 3/4 with a double. Carlos the D Train Vasquez going 3/4 with a triple. Rich Hill 3/4 with a double, Dave Anduze and Dave Lowitz and Phil Chontos Dan Sopchack, Joe Kupiec with 2 hits. But again, it was Miller's gloves that slowed down McHoul's rallies. Gold Glove candidate Phil Chontos playing a great LCF, threw out a McHoul's player at 2nd and made another great catch. Spider who might change his nickname to SCOOPS made great picks at 1st, Dave Anduze who played a great middle and Dan Sopchack handling the hot corner. Miller's would like to thank Mike Brooks for helping us out as we were short 5 players this week. Chris Thomas had better bring back some lobsters from Maine for the team .

At Whitesell, McHoul's couldn't hold the Miller's offense as they scored 5 runs three innings in a row to beat McHoul's 20-14. McHoul's kept it close through 5 but simply could not sustain their offensive attack during the last three innings. Both teams were short players and borrowed from The Grill.  McHoul's benefitted from the help as Mark Joao and Denny Curtis went 7-8 with a booming HR from Joao.  Other McHoul's highlights include Bill Hanchett who went 3-3 with a walk, Kevin Laffin who went 3-4 and Jim Flood who went 3-3. One more week of regular season play to see where the dust settles.

A&R 14 - J&N 6

A&R beat J&N at Digilio by the score of 14-6. Stats for A&R: Mike Cring 4-4 (2rs1rbi, Winning Pitcher), Tom Robinson 3-4 (3rs1rbi), Pat Rose 3-4 (1rs 2rbi), Joe Paolini 3-4 (2rs1rbi), Steve McGee 3-4 (2rs), Lou Post 3-3 (1rbi), Ed Bergamini 3-3 (1rs1rbi), Eddie Smilkstein 2-4 (1rs 2rbi 3B), Frank Navarra 2-3 (1rbi). John Pucylowski 2-3 (2rs), Greg Miller (2rbi).

We have met the enemy and he is us. Imagine, if you will, a softball team that has the bases loaded and no outs and cannot score a single run. Welcome to the Twilight Zone. Our next to last place softball team (by runs allowed) played the next to last team (A&R) and came up empty. Ahead by 2 after the first inning, down by 1 after three, 3 after five and well, when you don’t hit, you have to play perfect defense, and some innings were good and some had the infernal implosion. One more game and then watch out because we’re obviously saving our best ball for the playoffs. Offensive stars for J&N: John Warman 3/3 with 2 doubles and 3 RS, Dan Diesing 2/2 with 2 doubles and a walk, and 3 RBI’s, Stan Silverman 2/3 with a triple, George Hammer 2/3 with an RBI, and Jaime Pagan had 2 RBI’s. 

Mountain View Ranch 18 - TaxBrakes 12

TaxBrakes once again showed they can play with anyone but lost to Mountain View Ranch that made all the plays by the score of 12-18. TaxBrakes hung in with nifty infield defense. Hitting notables - Joe Wassweiler 4-4, Larry Stewart 3-3 3RBI, Pete Longobardi 3-4 4RBI, Mike Spinelli (1) 2-3, Emil Viola 2-4 2RBI.

Pizza Time 16 - Doyle's 9

PIZZA TIME beat a talented Doyle's team 16-9 behind the pitching of Mike Muffs. Great Defense by Tom Borell, Mark Batastoni, Tony Scaduto, Rick Sierra, Anthony Navarra. Great Outfield defense by Reggie Dolson, Freddie Patterson, and a Great Catch by Louie Rosenberg, Michael Vuozzo, Maurice Ragusa , B-Man Edwards, Angelo DiGregorio, Da' Coach. The timely hitting and clutch defense kept Pizza Time in the game, Mike Muffs kept all Doyle's hitters off stride. Finally PIZZA TIME 16 - DOYLES 9.....STATS : Tom Borrell 3-4 2runs, Reggie Dolson 3-4 3runs,  Mark Batastoni 3-3 3runs, Mike Vuozzo 3-3 , Rick Sierra played tough defensive, Mo Ragusa 2-3 2runs, Freddie Paterson 2-3 1run,  Anthony Navarra 2-2 1run, Tony Scaduto played a great third base and 1Run, Louie Rosenberg 3-3 1run,
