McHoul's 18 - J&N 5
At Whitesell, Bob Diggelmann set the tone in the first inning. With the bases loaded, his drive landed just 3 feet from the first hole at McCann. He added some of his defensive magic with a few more of his over the back catches at short. Speaking of defense, we benefited by some good defensive gems from Rodney Deloatch, Joe Paoloni, Bill Volpe and Steve Savod. Offensively, Rodney, Bill Hanchett, Joe Paoloni, Tony Dalia, and Bill Volpe had 3 hits apiece with Volpe having 2 triples. Kevin Laffin, Dave Napolillo, Steve Savod and Mike Capra had two hits apiece. Mike Capra and Jim Flood held J&N's solid lineup to 5 runs with Mike being the winning pitcher.
We came out flat, like Twiggy at a Dolly Parton Festival. Bob Digglemann hit a 4-run home run in the top of the first for McHoul's so Dan Diesing hit a 2-run homer in the bottom of the first for us and it only got worse from there. Their pitching kept us off balance all day. We would lead off an inning with a hit, and the next batter would hit into a fielders choice. We had so many F-7s that I may use that to name my next grandchild. Thank goodness that our right fielder not only caught a ball but also got an assist on another play. A new errorless streak has begun. Offensively, Dan Diesing hit his 2-run homer, Russ Gilmore went 2/3, John Warman got an RBI, Jim Kirzoncic went 2/3, Jaime Pagan went 3/3, Tom Giordano went 2/2 with a Sac Fly and Gerard Haugh also had a Sac Fly.
Mountain View Ranch 11 - A&R 7
At Digilio field today, Mountain View Ranch raced out to an 8 to 1 lead after 2 innings and held on to defeat A&R 11-7 in a surprisingly close game. Stats for A&R: Ben Anker 2-4, Lou Post 2-4 (2rs), Frank McHugh 2-3, Eddie Smilkstein 2-3, Mike Healey 2-3 (2rbi), Ed Bergamini 2-3, Steve McGee 2-3 (3 spectacular catches at second base).
Doyle's 13 - TaxBrakes 12
With the bases loaded, one run behind and one out in top of the 8th, Doyle's turned a double play, Scot Babrowsky to Tom Hotailing to George Norris to end the game. The winning pitcher was Joe Prisco. John Cacciola made a great running catch in left field, had two outfield assists, 4 doubles and didn't strike out today like he did last week.
Jhn Cacciola was 4 for 4 4 doubles, Pat Towne was 3 for 3, George Norris was 3 for 3, Jim Guranaccia, Rob MacIsaac, Doug McCracken, Joe Prisco, and Rick Willigan all had 2 hits for Doyle's.
TaxBrakes was defeated by Doyle’s 13-12. It was a very close game ending with a
double play by Doyle’s with the tying run on second to win the game. TaxBrakes' offense was led by Joe Wassweiler 4-4 (1R,4RBI), Pete Longobardi 3-4, Joe DiChiara 2-3 (2R), Gary Dimaggio 2-3 (1R,2RBI), Andy Endsley 2-2 (1R), Rick Bretholtz 2-3 (1RBI), Mike Spinelli 1-1 (2BB,2R). Jim Thorne 1-3 (3R, 2RBI). Defensive standouts were Roger Merritt and John Berrocal.
Pizza Time 11 - Arlington Grill 5
In the fashion of the Bronx Zoo, it was the 1977 Yankees all over again. Both teams put up two runs in the first inning. From there, only one run scored in the bottom of the 4th by the Grill to take a 3-2 lead heading into the 5th inning, But in the top of the 5th, PIZZA TIME's sticks came alive, scoring 4 runs and having the 5th run thrown out at the plate, to take a 6-3 lead heading into the bottom of the 5th inning. AG put together a few hits looking like a rally but a shoestring catch by Reggie "Roberto Clemente" Dolson put an end to their rally. In the top of the 6th inning, Anthony "Phil Rizzuto" Navarra started the inning off with a single, then was moved up by B-Man Edwards and scored on Freddie "Hideki Matsui" Patterson's line shot up the middle, making the score 7-3. In the bottom of the 6th inning, another rally by AG was stopped by great defensive plays of PT's Tony "Graig Nettles" Scaduto and Mark "Reggie Jackson" Batastoni's sliding catch in right center. In the top of the 7th inning all with two out, PIZZA TIME would go on to score 4 more runs led by the timely hitting of Mike "Razz" Rassin, Mo "Joe Dimaggio" Ragusa. a two-run RBI by Chris "Billy Martin" Edwards followed by Sammy "El Duque" Duke's single scoring the 3rd run in the inning, then Louie "Ron Blomberg" Rosenberg would drive in the 4th run in the top of the 7th giving PIZZA TIME a 11-3 lead heading into the bottom half of the 7th. The great hitters of AG would cut the lead down to 11-5 heading to the 8th "open inning" but PT couldn't put a run on the board in the 8th when great defensive plays by AG would keep PT off the score board. AG's great hitters were kept off balance by the pitching of Sammy Duke and wouldn't score in the 8th inning. Final Score Pizza Time 11 Arlington Grill 5. Big Defensive plays by PT helped keep the powerful AG hitters off the bases. It was an all-around good game by both teams and Great Pitching from AG's Rod Whitby and Sammy Duke of Pizza Time. Defense plays by Rick "Derek Jeter" Sierra, Mo Ragusa's foul tip catch, Angelo "Yogi Berra" DiGregorio, the great play of Anthony Navarra with a bad leg who did a great job covering the middle. Having to ask Tom "Lou Gerhrig" Borell, total team player, to play out of position and he came thought with so many great catches. The steady hitting from one of the leagues senior players B-Man Edwards was outstanding. Stats: Freddie Patterson 1-3, Tom Borrell 1-3 1run, Reggie Dolson 2-3 2runs 1rbi, Rick Sierra 2-3 1run 1rbi, Mike Rassin 1-2 2runs 1rbi, Mo Ragusa 2-3 2runs 1rbi, Chris "Billy Martin" Edwards 2-3 1run 3rbi, Sammy Duke 2-3 1run1rbi, Tony Scaduto 1-3 2rbi, Louie Rosenberg 1-3 1rbi, Anthony Navarra 1-3 1run, Mark Batastoni 1-3, B-man Edwards 1-3 Hit the ball hard all day! Angelo DiGregorio 1-3.
Arlington Bar and Grill was defeated by Pizza Time 11-5. The Grill didn't hit, but Pizza Time played great defense. For the Grill: Mike Brookshad 3 hits and Tom Mirande had 2 hits.
