TaxBrakes 21 - McHoul's 6
TaxBrakes defeated McHoul’s 21-6 with a total all around team play combining great hitting and strong defense. TaxBrakes accumulated 35 hits with every player throughout the lineup hitting the ball well. Joe DiChiara was the winning pitcher holding McHoul’s to only 6 runs. Leading hitters: Larry Stewart 5-5 (5 RBI, 3 R), Joe Wassweiler 4-5 (2 RBI, 3 R), Emil Viola 3-5 (5 RBI, 3 R), Mike Spinelli 1 4-5 (1 RBI, 2 R), Roger Merritt 3-5 (3 RBI, 2R), Don Black 3-5

TaxBrakes spanked us today by constantly hitting the ball where we weren't. McHoul's highlights could be summed up by saying "Bob Diggelmann" Not only did he go 3 for 3 with 2 doubles and a triple, but he made a beautiful diving catch in the top of the eighth to keep us within a striking distance of 15. Rodney DeLoatch, Tony Dalia, Keven Laffin, and Bill Volpe added 2 hits apiece for the cause. Bill also had a great over the head catch behind first base. Despite the rain, the Flood gates didn't open for McHoul this time, but I expect they will.
Pizza Time 20 - Miller's 19
The tale of two teams, Miller's coming off a big win and PIZZA TIME coming off a tough loss. They would meet in the second game of the season at Digilio. Pizza Time jumped out and scored 3 runs on Tom Borell's 3 run home run in the top of the 1st, but the talented Miller's hitters came right back with a 5 spot in the bottom half of the 1st. PT came right back and answered with 5 in the top of the second all by the middle of their order with 5 straight hits, the fifth run coming off the bat of Angelo DiGregorio's line drive up the middle. But again the hot hitters of Miller's came roaring back and scored 5 more in the bottom of the 2nd to take a 10-8 lead. But in the top of the 3rd, the never give up attitude came through and Pizza Time put up 3 more runs to take a 11-10 lead over Miller's led by Mark Batastoni leadoff double, followed by a Tom Borell double then a Reggie Dolson single, the final run driven in by Da'Coach's single. PT defense shut down Miller in the bottom of the 3rd, giving PT a 13-10 lead heading into the bottom of the 4th. Miller's strong lineup came back and scored 3 in the bottom half of the 4th to take a 14-13 lead heading into the top of the 5th. PT wouldn't score a run or register a hit for the next two innings. Miller's stingy defense shut down the heart of PT line up, but Miller's offense didn't lay down, and they would take a 19-13 lead going into the top of the 8th and open inning. That's when PIZZA TIME's Never Give Up attitude kicked in, It started with Freddie "Hit Man" Patterson lining a rocket up the middle. Then Mark "Hot Bat" Batastoni, and then Tom "Clutch" Borell roped a double scoring two runs. PT wasn't out of the woods yet, trailing 19-15 with no outs, Rick "Jeter" Sierra would move Tom To 3rd, and with one out Mike "Razz" Rassin would smoke a line drive over the SS, scoring Tom. Then Mike "Paul O'Neil" Vuozzo would double moving Razz to third. Then Da'Coach would get a hit that drove in two runs, tying the game at 19-19. Anthony "Don Mattingly" Navarra would move the run to 3rd with one out and Tony "Tino Martinez" Scaduto would drive in the go ahead run. PIZZA TIME would score 7 runs in the top of the 8th to take a 20-19 lead, But Miller's was the home team and with their talented lineup a one run lead wasn't safe. First hitter for Miller gets on with a single but Sammy "El Duque" Duke would work his magic and have the next player ground into a 6-4-3 double play. Miller's still had their chance but the next batter would ground out 6-3 ending the game, the final score Pizza Time 20- Miller's 19. Great game all around by both teams hitting and fielding. Hitting Stats: Tom Borell 3-4 3runs 5rbi, Reggie Dolson 3-4 2runs 3rbi, Mark Batastoni 3-4 3 runs, Freddie Patterson 3-4 2runs, Louie "Mickey Daryl Strawberry" Rosenberg 2-3, Michael "Juan Soto" Vuozzo 3-4 2runs 1rbi [played great outfield and timely hitting], Sammy "El Duque" Duke, 2-4 2runs 2rbi [pitched great game] , Tony Scaduto 2-4 2run 2rbi [Timely hitting] , Angelo DiGregorio 2-3 1rbi [Great job catching] , Michael "Razz" Rassin 1-4 1run 1rbi [played great defense, clutch hit], Anthony "Donnie Baseball" Navarra 1-4 1run 1rbi, Mo "Joe Dimaggio" Ragusa 1-2 1run [great defense], Da "Billy Martin" Coach 3-4 2runs 2rbi, Rick "Jeter" Sierra solid defense and turned big double play....This game of senior softball is never over till the last batted out, anything can happen no lead is safe...that's what make this game so great, able to play past our prime! God Bless!
On a cloudy day and trying to get the game in, Pizza Time came back in the 8th to beat Miller's 20-19. Miller's had their bats juiced in the first two innings as they put up
10 runs. But it was Pizza time that kept things in reach. In the 5th inning Miller's put another 5 spot to take a 18-13 lead. Millers 86ed Pizza Time in the 6th and 7th innings. In the 6th inning it was Carlos (Cyclone) Vasquez who hit his first home run, and we all thought it was Miller time. But in this great game, the famous saying of Yogi Berra, “It ain't over till it’s over" applied. And Miller Time became Pizza Time as they served a 7-slice pie to Miller's to take the lead with 7 runs in the 8th. Miller's bats died in the 7 and 8th innings as they got buried with goose eggs and couldn’t recover. Offensively Jeff Noe went 3/4 with a double, Dave Anduze 3/4, Angelo Sblendorio 4/4 and had the trifecta with 2 triples, Rich Sicardo kept his hot bat going with a few big 2 out hits and going 3/3, Dan Sopchack and Phil Chontos and Spider DeRito add 2 hits . And Carlos Vasquez added a home run, his first since 1969 playing little league in Brooklyn. Defensely Jeff Noe couldn’t go home with a clean jersey and mad a nice diving catch to end a Pizza Time rally. Congratulations to Pizza Time as it was a nice comeback win.
J&N 20 - Arlington Grill 9
J&N defeated Arlington Grill at Sports Park Jr. today by the score of 20-9. Tommy Giordano pitched a great game and kept the Grill off the board in several innings as J&N kept piling on the runs. Several double plays aided the effort. Offensively everyone on J&N hit. Jaime Pagan had 4 hits, John Warman, Stan "Easy" Silverman, Jim Kirzoncic and Roger Simon all had 3 hits, George Hammer, Russ Gilmore, Dan Diesing, Gerard Haugh, Von Ahouse, Tommy Milholm, Tommy Giordano and Fran Goberish all had 2 hits. Doyle's 13 - Mountain View Ranch 10
Three outstanding outfield plays by Bill Hild, Doug McCracken and John Cacciola in the bottom of the eighth inning gave winning pitcher Joe Prisco the victory. Rob McIsaac, John Cacciola and Bill Hild had 3 hits for Doyle's. Solid defense by RobMcIsaac, Tom Hotailing and Jim Guarnacciao kept Doyle's in this low scoring game.
