Miller's 22 - J&N 18

At Whitesell, Miller's had one of the greatest comebacks in league history by beating J&N 22-18. J&N opened the early innings with a 9-4 lead. Miller's would come back with a few runs while J&N did the same. With runners on 1st and 3rd and no outs, twice Miller's couldn’t connect on a big inning. With J&N leading in the in the bottom of the 7th, they came up big with 5 runs, making the score 17-10 and about to collect a win. In the top of the 8th Miller's bats came alive scoring 12 runs. Lou (Mr. Consistency) Post (5for5) and John Warman started the inning with back-to-back hits and Tom Borell Homering for the second time with a bomb dead center over the fence. Now down by 4 with nobody out, Doc Willoughby, Dave (Costa Rica) Napolillo, Mike Jaffe, Dan Sopchack getting back-to-back hits. Now down by 1 and man on 3rd and 1 out, J&N intentional walked to set up the double play, but Carlos (Cyclone) Vasquez tripled in the going ahead runs. George Cole (4for4) singled in Vasquez. Mike Capra and Joe Pennachio added more big hits for Miller's. In that 12-run surge, Miller's who had 14 players, sent 17 batters up to the plate in the inning. Miller's had 34 hits in the game. Post 5 hits, Cole 4 hits, Willoughby, Napolillo, Sopchack, Capra all with 3 hits. Warman, Borell (2 homers), Jaffe, Santamaria (triple), Hill, Pennachio contributed 2 hits. The team did celebrate in the parking lot with a few beers.

We just ran out of magic. Imagine waking up and discovering that you could fly. You decide to fly to California to visit your old flame. So, you pack up your stuff and head to Beverly.. Hills.. that is. Swimming pools, movie stars. Well, 7/8 of the trip is fantastic. You are making great time and win or tie most every checkpoint. Pitcher Rick Brettholz is holding the rudder and keeping you out of danger. Every player is hitting and making the plays. Even that right fielder caught a ball and kept the others in front of him. In the home half of the 7th, you score 5 and have a 7-run lead. Things look great. Your cape is straight and unfurling majestically. And then the top of the eighth starts and you start to lose altitude. The ground balls get through. The tweeners tween. The fly balls fly. And the dunkers dunk. You crash. Now down by 5, you get up and jump up in the air again. You score just one. You crash.  The dust settles and you are marooned on a deserted island with 6 other people, and you are wearing a silly hat like that softball player from Boston. We just ran out of magic. Mountain View Ranch 15 - McHoul's 14

In a really good defensive battle, Mountain View defeated McHoul's 15-14. For McHoul's Paulie Lastowski went 4 for 4, with Emil Viola, Dave Lowitz, Tony Dalia, Jim Kirzoncic, Phil Chontos and Frank Goberish all going 3 for 4. Mike Healy and Russ Gilmore chipped in 2 hits each in the loss.

Doyle's 21 - A&R 13

Doyle's led by Rodney DeLoatch and Spider Derito's excellent defense beat A&R. Tom Giordano was the winning pitcher. Hitting stats: Dan Diesing 5-5 with 2 doubles, John Latino 5-5 with 3 doubles 6 rbis, Rodney DeLoatch 3-5 with 2doubles, Tom Giordano 3-4, Tom Derito 3-4, Joe Prisco 3-4, Al Hicks 3-5, Doug McCracken, Joe Kupiec, Steve Lynch and Steve Schmid with 2 hits.

Pizza Time 18 - Michael's 7

At full strength, Pizza Time put together a great game on both sides of the field, defensively shutting down a talented but shorthanded Michael's team, while the offense came alive scoring in every inning. Great pitching by Bert "Cy Young" Keating, defensive standouts were Tom "Brooks Robinson" Hotaling , Roger "Derek Jeter" Merritt, Charlie "Willie Randolph" Melia, Joe "Robinson Cano" Karam, Anthony "Mark Teixeira" Navara, catcher Frank "Mike Piazza" Navarra, Ray"Rod Carew" Smith, outfield Greg "Lou Piniella" Miller, Joe "Brett Gardner" Wassweiler , Reggie "Roberto Clemente" Dolson, Don "Roy White" Black, Tony "Chuck Knoblauch" Janicik , Da Coach "Billy Martin" Edwards. Game started with Michael's putting a 4 spot on the board. PT came back with 2 in the bottom half of the first, then the PT Defense shut out for the next 4 innings, while PT offense went to work outscoring Michael's 12-4. Michael's scored one in the sixth inning and 2 in the top of the seventh and were shut out in the 8th. PT would score 2 in the sixth and 4 in the bottom of the seventh, making the final score PIZZA TIME 18-7.  Stats: Greg Miller 2-4 2run,1rbi, Joe Wassweiler 3-4 2 run,1rbi, Roger Merritt 4-4 3run,3rbi.
