Miller's 23 - J&N 11

At Whitesell, Miller's beat J&N 23-11. Miller's came out on fire but J&N's defense came up big by throwing out 2 aggressive baserunners at home plate to keep Miller only scoring 2 runs. In the middle innings, Miller's kept putting pressure on J&N but again they threw out another runner at home and another at third. A total of 4 runners thrown out on close plays. Miller's up 15-7. Miller's put their golden gloves on as Phil Chontos making 2 unbelievable shoestring catches and RF Carlos Vasquez made a charging catch and it didn’t end as Jeff Noe chased a ball that everyone thought he was beat on but made an awesome catch over his head. (Yes, he was on the ground after the catch). One another nice defense play was a bomb hit over Chris Thomas’s head, but he hit Joe Y with the cutoff who threw a Rocket to home to Spider who was covering to throw out Dan Diesing at home. Leading the way for the Miller bats that were unstoppable were Chris Thomas going 4/4 and the bottom of the order, Joe Kupiec going 4/4 with 2 doubles and the Veteran Tom (Spider) DeRito coming up big with 3/4 with a double and Rich (late for the school bus) Sicardo going 4/4 with a triple.

Joe Y was 3/5 with 3 doubles, the 2 Daves - Anduze and Lowitz each with 3 hits. (Winning pitcher) Angelo Sblendorio, Jeff Noe, Phil (The Energizer Bunny) Chontos, Dan (what’s 'Sup) Sopchack and Carey Wasserberg all chipped in with 2 hits and Carlos (the conductor) Vasquez added a triple.

Miller's over J&N 23-11. If there had been a nuclear explosion after the first inning, J&N would have won, decisively, 3-2.  As you all know by now, there wasn’t. So, two innings later, Miller's warmed up and began to kick our butts all over the field. Just about every ball that we hit to the outfield was caught. Hit a line drive thru the box, their pitcher catches it.  A smash down the third base line, caught. What the heck is going on here? We demand that the balls be cut open and examined for tracking devices! Defensively we must give credit to Gerard Haugh for making 3 great catches in right field. Offensively: Russ Gilmore 3/4 with 3 RS. Jaime Pagan 3/4 with a triple, 3 RS and 2 RBIs. Dan Diesing 3/4 with a double, a triple and 3 RBI. George Hammer 2/4 with 2 RS and an RBI. And Tom Milholm 2/3 with 2 RBI. Frank Goberish also had an RBI and Jim Kirzoncic and Roger Simon had Runs Scored. 

Mountain View Ranch 15 - McHoul's 7

MVR has had the stingiest defense in the league, averaging only about 7.4 runs a game and McHoul's was hoping to better that but only succeeded in keeping it at 7. With Johnny O as their perpetual runner from second, MVR outscored us 15-7. McHoul's highlights include Bill Volpe and Mike Capra who went 3-3.  Mike also pitched a solid game. Bill Hanchett kept his hot hitting alive going 2-3 with another defensive gem in left center. Steve Savod, Rodney Deloatch and Rick Wetzel added two hits apiece.

Doyle's 11 - A&R 8

A&R led off the game with 5 runs in the first inning and 3 runs in the third inning. Doyle's held them scoreless the last 5 innings. Led by 3 double plays, with Tom Hotailing involved with all 3 and Joe Prisco's pitching 8 strong innings, Doyle's defeated A&R 11 to 8. John Cacciola, Jim Guarnaccio, and Bill Hild all made exceptional outfield plays. Leading hitters for Doyle's were Scott Babrowsky 3 for3 scoring 2 runs, Pat Towne 2 for 2 scoring 2 runs, Tom Hotailing and John Cacciola were both 2 for 3, Dick Michels 2 for 2 with 3 RBI's.

Doyles beat A&R 11-8 at Sports Park JR. Stats for A&R: Mike Cring 3-3 (2rs1rbi), Eddie Smilkstein 2-4 (2rs), Greg Miller 2-3(1rs1rbi), Steve McGee 2-3(1rbi), Frank Navarra 2-3, Mike Healy and Stan Smilkstein 2 rbi each. 

Arlington Grill 13 - TaxBrakes 11

TaxBrakes was defeated by Arlington Grill 11-13. Notable offensive players for TaxBrakes were Joe Wassweiler, Larry Stewart, Andy Endsley, and both Spinelli’s all with 3 hits, followed by Roger Merritt, Pete Longobardi and Joe DiChiara with 2 hits. Great pitching by Andy Endsley and Joe DiChiara with good defense and a couple of excellent plays by Emil Viola kept TaxBrakes in another tightly contested game.
